Deviation prisms are an optical component that will redirect a light beam into another known angle relative to the incoming beam. The penta-prism is a deviation prism which is used in cameras with a movable mirror that bends the beam vertical onto the focus graticule. The penta-prism provides a 90° deviation of the beam from the focus plane and, via an eyepiece, the user can aim the camera along the same axis as the beam that is focused onto the detector, electronic or wet film. Deviations through other angles can be accomplished using, for example, abbe constant deviation, littrow, and wadsworth prisms.

Infra-red interference Shortpass filters are designed to transmit wavelengths shorter than the “cut-off” of the filter and to block bands above that. In many systems that require heat shielding while still needing visibility a shortpass filter can be used. These can attenuate infrared radiation and allow through visible light, which allows your temperature sensitive equipment to be visible. They can also be paired with a longpass filter to make a bandpass filters.

Spherical aberration occurs in common singlet lenses, which results in an image that appears distorted, aspheric lenses correct spherical aberration. An aspheric lens surface is designed non-spherical, which allows a single component lens to collimate or focus highly divergent rays potentially replacing a multi-lens system. This in turn provides the LiDAR system with a better signal quality, at lower costs whilst making the system more compact.
